Mission of K-Rep Group

“To empower low-income and serve as a catalyst for them to increase their participation in the development process and to enhance their quality of life”. 

The K-Rep Group endeavors to accomplish this through development finance interventions that aim at creating institutions and mechanisms, which serve to enable low-income people to better organize their financial lives.

 
K-Rep Group Limited

The K-Rep group started in 1984, as a five-year project to address the financial, management and technical needs of non-governmental organizations involved in the micro and small enterprises development sector.  From its humble beginnings in the late 20th century, K-Rep has changed, evolved and developed into a respected multi-functional microfinance enterprise that is poised to meet the challenges of the African microfinance industry in the 21st century. 

Today the group comprises of three subsidiary companies: K-Rep Development Agency, K-Rep Bank Limited and K-Rep Advisory Services Limited. 

The Acronym; K-Rep

K-Rep used to stand for the Kenya Rural Enterprise Program but the use of the long form of the name was discontinued in 1994.  The acronym conserves the original focus of the program but its meaning has been widened because the scope of operations for the K-Rep Group has spread from rural to urban areas and now includes multiple financial services that cater for multiple sectoral needs.

K-Rep Group Limited Limited (KGL) is registered as a company limited by guarantee (having no share capital) under the Laws of Kenya. Its assets are held in Trust by K-Rep Charitable Trust. KGL is the majority shareholder in each of the subsidiary companies that make up the K-Rep Group of Companies.

The Group’s Board of Directors is composed of microfinance specialists, development specialists, chartered accountants, academics and public servants.  The members, Mr. Bethuel Kiplagat (Chairman), Dr. Kabiru Kinyanjui  (Vice Chairman) Prof. Judith Bahemuka, Mr. Francis Kihiko, Mr. Kimanthi Mutua, and Mr. Aleke Dondo are responsible for overseeing the affairs of the Group, guiding it into the 21st century and at the same time ensuring that as it grows and expands further, the K-Rep Group it does not lose sight of its mission and the social objective: Alleviation of poverty. 

The functions of K-Rep Group are to coordinate the operations of its subsidiaries. It provides the corporate structure for ownership/leadership, custodian of assets & stock, and the management of common services. The Group is managed through an Executive Management Committee.  All subsidiary entities have a separate board and management structure. KGL is basically a holding company and does not conduct operations directly.

Past & Present Management 

Since its inception, the following individuals have provided leadership to the organization as Managing Directors.

  • Mr. Kimanthi Mutua:-  1992 – 1999
  • Mr. Aleke Dondo:-  1999-2000
  • Presently management leadership is provided by the following individuals that also serve as members of the Executive Management Committee:
